More information on how we work

Our aim is to provide you with a comprehensive and well thought out quote, although at the quotation stage the amounts are only estimates and will be in relation to the brief and script provided to us. We rely on you to provide as much information as possible so that we can realistically address your needs. We may not be able to anticipate the specific needs of the director, especially regarding the art department and some of the crew, until we receive your confirmation. Our experience shows that only once the director has approved the locations and specified the details of the scenes can we then judge the actual costs according to your specific needs.

We charge a production service fee of 15%. If the numbers at the end increase, the value of the service fee (not the percentage!) will increase. If the numbers decrease, the value of the service will decrease.

Our production insurance is charged at 1-1.5% and covers all risks, personal accidents of the local crew, props, costumes, locations and liability. The additional percentage is reflected on the crew pages. Our insurance excludes specialist insurance and non-performance of actors and animals. Also excluded is the impossibility of filming due to weather conditions. Non-appearance of the actor due to illness can be arranged at an additional cost provided a medical certificate is presented. Any international risk insurance (including international actors) must be included in your quote.

When you decide to confirm your production with us, we will ask you to sign our production service contract.

Our ultimate aim is to try to stay within the original signed figure. We move money within the quote to cover the requirements of the job as best we can, before considering it to be an ‘extra charge’. The same principle applies to any new elements that are included, whether they relate to a change of plan or a request from the client. We will always try to integrate it into the quote before considering it as an additional cost. If we are unable to absorb it, we will discuss the additional cost with you and ensure your acceptance before including it as an additional cost.

After confirmation of your work, we send an invoice for 50% and another for 40% of the total amount of the agreed quote. The first for 50% is due upon confirmation and 10 days before the first day of shooting, and the second for 40% is due three days before the first day of shooting. Upon signing our final settlement and generally before clients leave the Islands, the final invoice for 10% will be presented and must be paid within 48 hours of dispatch. In case you have incurred additional costs and approved them, these will be included in the final invoice. All payments must be in EUR. The customer shall be responsible for any differences or charges arising from payments in foreign currency. IBAN: ES5121001521570200402550. SWIFT / BIC / Sort Code / Routing Number: CAIXESBBXXX. Beneficiary: CANARY ISLANDS PRODUCTIONS SL

If receipts for all expenses are required at the end of the shoot, an additional cost of 2% of the total quote will be charged.

Actors work 10 hours a day, plus 1 hour for meals. If this time is exceeded, the rate is one and a half hours per additional hour worked.

We scrupulously adhere to the working hours allowed for children on set. A child may be in front of the camera for a total of 4 hours at a time and no more than 8 hours in total per day. It is mandatory to obtain a work permit for children prior to filming. This process takes approximately 10 working days. A child minder is required to be on set.

When quoting team rates, we give priority to professionals and people we trust and who, in our experience, can deliver at their best level, thus benefiting your production. The team works 10 hours a day, plus one hour for meals. 30 minutes are reserved for breakfast (before shooting!) and 30 minutes for lunch. Meals must be served every 6 hours (can be delayed up to an hour if discussed with the crew). Overtime is charged at 150% of the team’s hourly rate per additional hour worked. The day starts once the team leaves Sur/Santa Cruz/ Las Palmas (depending on location). The day ends once the team arrives in the South/Santa Cruz/Las Palmas area (depending on location). The team will have 11 hours free from the end of the day until the next call. Otherwise, each hour not rested will be charged at 150%, as well as overtime.

Any shooting day that has a call after 15:00 hours is considered a night shoot, so the whole team will be paid 20% more. All Sunday shoots will be paid double time (200% of the normal salary).

The quoted weather risk day cost is indicative only. We will provide you with a more specific quote once all quoted amounts have been confirmed. In the event of incurring a weather risk day you will be asked to sign a summary page and agree to our payment terms per weather risk day (90% of the invoice costs will be paid immediately and the remaining 10% on receipt of final acknowledgement). Payment to Canary Productions per weather risk day cannot be subject to delays. Please note that although we do our best to keep the same team and actors, we would be exposed to losing them if another company confirms them for another project.

All travel (including travel day rates), accommodation (unless already budgeted for), subsistence and international quotas must be included in your quote. Please do not hesitate to send us any additional questions that may help you understand how filming in the Canary Islands, and specifically with Canary Productions, works. We are always happy to help. We look forward to working with you.
